Summary of Job:

Looking for a position the will put you out on the slopes? Passionate about helping guests and employee have a fun and safe time on the slopes? Affectionately referred to as "yellow jackets", Mountain Host is the department for you. Mountain Host work to uphold the highest levels of guest safety on the mountain as well as promote the Skier Responsibility Code and Vail Resorts’ safety policies and procedures. This position also serves as an ambassador for guest service and resort knowledge.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude about working outside in adverse weather conditions for up to 8 hours

  • Greet and welcome all guests at assigned stations and while skiing/riding on the mountain.

  • Maintaining the highest levels of guest safety while skiing/boarding and standing on snow, on varied terrain, with varying winter weather conditions.

  • Enforcing the Skier Responsibility Code and Resort policies with guests and employees including revocation of lift tickets or passes and instructing guests and employees on appropriate behavior.

  • Answering guest questions regarding terrain, directions, and other resort information in a professional friendly manner.

  • Maintaining park lots; parking assistance, placing cones, ropes, and packing or shoveling snow.

  • Be informed and proactively describe and explain events, programs and services to guests.

  • Assist in general resort clean up.

  • Support in lift ticket scanning as requested.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of Guest Service Experience (preferred)

  • A minimum of 2 years previous work experience at Afton Alps (required)

  • Must enjoy working with people and interacting with guests.

  • Able to communicate clearly and comfortably with a variety of different types on guest.

  • Able to work unsupervised, including establishing priorities, working independently or within a group, and proceeding with objectives without supervision.

  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times

  • Knowledge of the facility

  • Ability to work weekends and holidays as necessary

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to ski or snowboard at an intermediate or better level

  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions – including but not limited to snow, extreme cold, and wind

  • Ability to stand in one area for longs periods of time.

  • Able to lift at least 55lbs

  • Assist with snow work when needed
