SUMMARY

The Kitchen Team Leader is responsible for leading the food preparatory and production processes in two full-service kitchens and 3 cafeteria-style food outlets. They will work as a part of the Afton Alps food and beverage leadership team and will work closely with food and beverage General Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the production of the best possible product, attractively presented and efficiently served

  • Lead by example, while participating in and overseeing implementation of daily operating procedures within Kitchen.

  • Ensures that all aspects of kitchen work, including (but not limited to) food preparation skills at all stations, portioning, garnishing, storage, and quality control are executed to the standards set by Afton Alps and Vail Resorts.

  • Responsible for working in conjunction with food and beverage general manager to make labor decisions.

  • Assist with inventories, reports and other paperwork as required, in a timely manner

  • Cooks foodstuffs in quantities according to menu and number of persons to be served.

  • Directs activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.

  • Ensure all food is prepared, cooked and presented according to health department regulations and safe food handling practices.

  • Maintain clean, well-organized, and well-maintained facilities in compliance with Minnesota State and Company standards.

  • Demonstrated Knowledge to work all cook stations in all food and beverage outlets.

  • Support food and beverage banquets and events, as needed.

  • Ability to verbally communicate with guests and staff in English.

  • Other duties as requested by F&B General Manager or Resort General Manager

  • Be knowledgeable about the Afton Alps Ski Area, the products and services available in restaurant and the food being served to guests.

  • Show up to work on time and in uniform.

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward the workplace, co-workers, and the guests.

  • Communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and managers effectively regarding personal and work issues.

  • Ability to work unsupervised in a manner that is professional and consistent with Vail Resorts and Afton Alps policies and procedures.

  • Ability to use good judgment when dealing with customer service situations and other situations that are not clearly defined by standard operating procedures.

  • Will assist enthusiastically when asked to help out in other areas of the Food and Beverage department.

  • High School education or equivalent – Required.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays – Required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English – Required.

  • Willingness to gain a greater knowledge of Afton Alps ski trails, lifts and mountain operations.

  • Ability to maintain attention to detail while ensuring the safety of our guests and coworkers.

  • Capability to learn a wide variety of information about department operations quickly.

  • The aptitude to make decisions quickly and calmly in emergent and non-emergent scenarios

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Basic arithmetic skills required.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Serve Safe Food Certificate – Preferred

  • Minnesota State Food License – Preferred
