Job Summary

The Ski Patrol Senior Manager oversees all aspects of the Professional Ski Patrol and Mountain Safety departments at Vail Mountain. This includes overall department performance, staffing, training, budgeting, culture, engagement, scheduling, interdepartmental relations, and guest service. Additionally, the Ski Patrol Senior Manager is responsible for ensuring safety of our guests and employees, overseeing medical aid, leading all aspects of snow safety and avalanche control operations, rope rescue, lift and gondola evacuation and avalanche rescue. The job requires strong leadership skills, the ability to problem solve, creativity, and the ability to build a positive, winning culture while building a high performing team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver an “Experience of a Lifetime” to our guests and employees. Promotes a guest service culture within the department.

  • Overall fiscal responsibility for department including department labor and supplies budget, staffing to budget and business volumes.

  • Supervises candidate/apprentice program including budget and staff levels. Oversees testing of candidates to patrol level, forecasting needs for future patrollers

  • Holds self and team accountable for living our company core values; Serve Others, Do Right, Drive Value, Do Good, Be safe, Have Fun.

  • Promotes safety culture, and leads with colleagues on enterprise-wide Ski Patrol best practices group.

  • Leads all aspects of departmental training program, schedule of training, training topics, and safety during training

  • Interdepartmental and intradepartmental relations to promote team unity.

  • Assists with the management of outside agency relations with groups such as Eagle County Search & rescue.

  • Avalanche hazard forecasting, avalanche control, control and oversight of explosives, and avalanche rescue

  • Winter mountain setup and maintenance including trail openings and closures, signage, ropes, and pads

  • Responsibility for Mountain Safety department to ensure a safe experience for our guests

  • Accountability for the Accident Investigation team including hiring of team, training, and coordinating with Health & Safety.

  • Summertime responsibilities include oversight of Summer Patrol in support of Mountain Activities, including high rope rescue, hiking/biking trail operation, and guest service interaction.

  • Summertime work to maintain existing trails in regards to brush cutting trail work and signage, build new trails and be actively involved in capital projects.

  • Act as “Manager on Duty” as determined by Senior Director of Mountain Operations and General Manager.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University or equivalent combination of training and experience to compensate a degree program.

  • 5 years in a leadership capacity, ski patrol experience preferred

  • Qualified to coordinate and advise out of bounds search and rescues, lift evacuation, coordinate Mass Casualty Incidents

  • Strong guest service attitude.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

The expected pay range is $87,000 - $95,000 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
