Vail Mountain's fine-dining leadership team is looking for an Restaurant Operations & Events Manager to join our outstanding restaurant and events staff. This position will be based out of The 10th, our signature fine dining lunch restaurant on Vail Mountain.

The 10 th first opened its doors for the 2011-12 winter season as a fine dining sit-down lunch restaurant, and has continued to garnered rave reviews from guests for the delectable cuisine, excellent service, and incredible ambiance. The 10 th is simply: Alpine. Modern. Inspired. The 10th serves lunch 7 days a week, plus extensive events and banquets as scheduled.

The Restaurant Operations & Events Manager is a full time, year-round 10-month position, reporting directly to the Fine Dining General Manager. This role will be directly responsible for overseeing coordination and execution of world-class events such as corporate dinners, weddings and private breakfasts, in addition to providing regular leadership support floor support at The 10th, with a strong focus on the guest experience.

Responibilites include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain the high standards of excellence that are synonymous with The 10th

  • Set the example for all other staff for service standards, menu knowledge, wine and beverage education, and overall service excellence.

  • Be a direct leader of the service team during events, including First Tracks breakfasts, private events, weddings, and corporate group buyouts.

  • Set clear goals and timelines for staff for event setup needs, assign staff to event responsibilities.

  • Ensure staffing levels are adequate for event and group business, working with the Restaurant Manager to schedule staff as needed.

  • Design custom menus for groups in Word, ensuring logo placement, titles, and menu descriptions are accurate.

  • Understand completely all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines and training programs.

  • Ensure that all restaurant and event guests feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times.

  • Have excellent knowledge of the OpenTable table management system, and be able to support or lead the host team, maximizing seating capacity while upholding service levels in the restaurant.

  • Fill in where needed in the restaurant to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations.

  • Continually strive to develop staff in all areas of restaurant and professional development.

  • Work closely with the Sommelier and/or Beverage Manager and/or Bar Manager for banquet menu wine, liquor, beer selections, and guide guests through venue experiences to make their selections.

  • Achieve company objectives in sales, service, quality, appearance of facility and sanitation and cleanliness through training of employees and creating a positive, productive working environment.

  • Control cash and other receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures in accordance with restaurant policies and procedures.

  • Prepare all required paperwork, including forms, daily closing reports and schedules in an organized and timely manner.

  • Make employment and termination recommendations consistent with Restaurant Manager and General Manager guidelines for approval or review.

  • Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and kept in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the restaurant’s preventative maintenance programs.

  • Ensure that all products are received in correct unit count and condition and deliveries are performed in accordance with the restaurant’s receiving policies and procedures.

  • Be knowledgeable of restaurant policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair and consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies, rules and procedures.

  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of the restaurant, employees and guests.

  • Provide advice and suggestions to Restaurant Manager and General Manager as needed.


  • High school diploma or equivalent - required.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent - preferred.

  • Must be able to lift and carry 40+ lbs - required.

  • Minimum 3 years of restaurant experience with at least one year at a supervisory or managerial level - required.

  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or managerial leadership of group event business required.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a fine dining setting required.

  • Experience in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment - preferred.

  • Experience working with a wine and/or beverage program - preferred .

  • Completion of Court of Master Sommelier Introduction Course or higher - preferred .

  • Must be fluent in English - required.

  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed - required.

  • Must have excellent leadership, problem-solving and multi-tasking skills - required.

  • Must be aware of safety and sanitation guidelines - required.

  • Must be available to work holidays including: Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, December 26th through January 2nd, Presidents’ Day Weekend, and any other holidays as requested - required .

  • Must be available to work from June 10-September 30 with a varying schedule for summer group and wedding events – required.

  • ServSafe certified (or ability to obtain) – required .

  • TiPS certified - safe alcohol service management (or ability to obtain) – required.
